Mayer's practice focuses on complex life insurance litigation representing the estates of deceased insureds seeking to recover the proceeds of life insurance policies from STOLI investors.

Prior to joining Marcus & Marcus, Mayer worked as an associate at two AM Law 100 law firms in Philadelphia, Saul Ewing and Cozen O'Connor, handling a wide array of complex commercial litigation matters. Prior to entering private practice, Mayer served three terms as a judicial law clerk: first for Justice David N. Wecht of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, then for Chief Judge John E. Jones III of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and then for Chief Judge Henry W. Van Eck of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

Mayer maintains an active pro bono practice, regularly assisting indigent formerly incarcerated individuals to re-integrate into civilian life through the Eastern District of Pennsylvania's Supervision to Aid Re-Entry Program. Mayer has also overseen case reviews for the Pennsylvania Innocence Project and has worked directly with individuals seeking assistance to protect their civil liberties.

Mayer earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and his law degree, cum laude, from Temple University's Beasley School of Law, where he was the managing editor of the Temple Law Review. While attending law school, Mayer gained valuable experience interning with two U.S. Magistrate Judges, the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office in the trial and appeals divisions, and the Federal Re-Entry Court.

Mayer is a nationally certified volunteer firefighter with his local firehouse.
